Weird Square reflection on glass

Hello !

I have a problem with 3dsmax and mental ray : When I create a cilinder with the material autodesk glass and put something in, it create weird square reflection. I tried to disable FG or put it on high nothing change. And I have pretty much tried every option I know.

Does someone can help ?

Are you talking about how jagged "table" edge is (that is seen through the glass). That looks like a problem with glass geometry.

Yep, that looks like a geometry issue. Can we see wires & modifier stack?

Yes, as you can see the yellow slab inside the glass is also affected. The glass isn't smoothed but if I smooth it, there's still these edge, but it looks just more "precise".

Here's the screen of the wire and modifier :




As you can see it's basic.



And here's a smoothed version of the glass :




You can see how the reflection are and it's not normal I think.

Do you have correct smoothing groups?

I think I should watch some tutorials on smoothing groups then. I'm a begginer and I don't know how to use it, I just use NURMS in polygon modeling

First render issue is probably a lack of smoothing groups. Second issue is that the big polygon inside the bottom of the glass is causing the issue because it's an n-gon, try inset it a bit and that should fix the problem.

Thanks to everyone, it was a problem with the smoothing groups, here's the new render. There's no more square or weird reflection

Well I thought it was fixed on now it's on the cylinder ...

Can someone explain me why I have these square on my material which very basic please ?

Looks like it might be an issue with your shadow settings.
What kind of shadows are you using, and what are their settings?

Perhaps try lowering the Cutoff value in the VRayMtl options.

He's using Mental ray.

Nodraw, just share the scene, someone will take a look at it.

It seems to be rendered in an orthographic view, change to perspective and see if the problem solves.
