Realistic Mode Default Off?
Frequently when I go to switch a view from Wireframe mode to a Shaded mode, it defaults to showing me Realistic mode. Is there a way to make views default to Shaded mode instead?
Obviously, I can set all viewports to be Shaded via the Viewport Configuration dialog. I'm just wondering if Shaded can be set to be the default choice when switching rather than Realistic. Thanks! |

It should swap to the most recently used type. So in theory it's swapping to realistic because that's what you used last time in that view. If it's in new scenes it might work to save a Maxstart.max file with all viewports set to shaded.

assuming you toggle by pressing the corresponding shortcut key that is bound to "Viewport Visual Style Wirefram/Shaded Toggle". The first time after Max startup or a Max reset this toggles to realistic ( when currently in wireframe ). After that it always toggles to the most recently used shading mode ( again from wireframe ) in that specific viewport. The most recent shading mode even survives a scene load (of course only when those incoming views are in wireframe). This seems to be hardcoded.
A solution might be some small startup-script that cycles through the viewports and checks wether they are in wireframe: if yes, set the mode to "Shaded" and immediatley back to wireframe again. This should "store the "shaded" mode wherever this info gets stored and next time you toggle by shortcut, it would use that shaded mode info. At the same time this would'nt touch any of your shaded modes configured in the "maxstart.max" file, which you would have set by purpose would make some nice little script , best with setable "default" mode PS: maybe i'll hack some little script together, no promises though ;-) __________________

Hi guys, here is a first iteration of the script.
When installed ( by copying to "<maxroot>/scripts/startup" ) it sets the default shading modes for all wireframe viewports to "Shaded" (or any other mode, configurable) . Additionally it disables Shadows, AO, Dual default lights etc.. in the advanced shading modes by default. This happens each time after startup or a scene load ( latter is required to apply the defaults when a "maxstart.max" file is used. ) Everything of that is configureable ( simply edit the settings at the script beginning ) So eg. you can set the default shading mode to be "Clay" mode or any other mode Just read in the scripts comment header for some more description I hope the script is of some use ;-) http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/s...dedmodeenforcer __________________
