backburner issues

Hi,

i'm having a problem with backburner..

During rendering it's sometimes Skipping frames

1. Either not rendering the frame at all and "skipping it" like skip existing frames
2. Actually rendering the frame and not storing the output.

i could deal with it skipping 1-5%, but sometimes it skips about 95% of all the frames submitted..

all the output paths are in UNC, and have been quadrouple checked..

it's only a recent change, we've introduced vray into our pipeline recently and seems to coincide with this timeframe.

we've tried UNC storing the BB data zips / and locally Storing them.
neither resulted in any fixes.

also we have tried reverting from BB 2012 to BB2008 with a registry hack to add Max 2012.

Any one else is having a simular experience?

This might not solve the problem but have you tried rendering the sequence through the Vray Frame Buffer?

first untick 'use rendered frame window' at the bottom of the render dialog.

You can then uncheck the 'save file' option in the normal render dialog.

Then go to the first vray tab, open the 'Vray: Frame Buffer' section and tick 'enable VFB' at the top.

Finally tick 'save separate render channels'. Then choose the file location and filetype from here.

Now the computers on the farm will render using the Vray frame buffer instead.

When you render with Backburner it will say 'you are render a sequence without a file, continue?' Just ignore this. Maybe this will fix it.

More info on the V-ray Frame Buffer section:

Hope this helps and i'm not wasting your time!

Are you using any other plugins apart from Max 2012 and Vray? Or Particle Flow?

we have some additional plugins, we're using Houdini ocean tools + a script based ocean surface.

http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/ocean-plane
https://code.google.com/p/houdini-ocean-toolkit/

but even jobs that are not useing any of these plugins are having issues.

i should have mentioned, We are using VFB already.

My collegue just mentioned that even light scanline renders are having the same troublesome issue.

so i guess this excludes v-ray as being the source of the problem.
