Quicksilver stops on Windows Lock

I have a problem with quicksilver.

When rendering an image and locking my workstation the rendering stops.
I do not have this problem with iRay or MentalRay or any other renderer.

This is pretty annoying because a) I frequently use weekend or over-night rendering to get jobs done and b) I'm in a business environment and our IT dep. requires all machines to lock after 1h for security purposes.

Since this only occurs in quicksilver I was wondering if any of you guys experienced this.
I already filed a bug-report with Autodesk but that will take a while I guess.

Thanks!

Sounds quite plausible:
Quicksilver uses your GPU/Display hardware, and most probably your computer goes into powersave mode and turns your display hardware off. iRay will most probably run in software mode than as it seems, but quicksilver seemingly can't deal with the fact that powersaving pulls the GPU away under its feed...

I compared rendering times and the GPU temperature with iRay when the PC is locked or when unlocked, no difference whatsoever.

Can anyone confirm this?

It might also simply be the fact that the lock screen in windows uses a different desktop altogether and triggers some kind of graphics driver re-init. Quicksilver is VERY sensitive to anything relatd to the graphics driver

True, but in my eyes that's still a bug since the other rendering architecture within the same piece of software has non of those issues.

Thanks.

Yeah it does. I think the windows lock screen just turns off the display driver or something like that. Max also fails to restart the display driver if you use DirectX hardware shaders and let windows lock (same problem here, windows locks afer 15mins for security reasons). We need to quit and reload max after the windows lock screen. It's a real pain.

Just wondering:
In that case you should see the same problem by simply pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, because that switches to the same session screen the lockscreen uses ( in my previous post i named it desktop, but i meant session)

As far as I know locking your computer releases the graphics driver.

I had this problem with Unreal Engine 3, that if I lock our computers then Unreal would lose its connection with the graphics card, but if I didn't lock I would come back to a new wallpaper of an oily gay guy flexing his muscles and a bunch of giggling co-workers.

Unreal solved this by a fix that refreshed the graphics driver when you unlocked, however in your case you don't simply wish to return to 3ds max, you want 3ds max to do work WHILE you're locked out! in which case I'm not sure they even can add that feature, but I'm no expert.

MentalRay is (as you know) CPU so no wonder there, Windows is designed to let the CPU do work while you're away, I'm surprised however you say that iRay works, so I guess since iRay is so feature-complete they've managed to find a solution. I hope Quicksilver applies that same fix some day.
