3ds max icon dissapears

I installed the 2013 3ds max and now I can only open it if i launch the application and then use "open file" to open my files. if i create a file and then try to open it directly, it won't let me.. it's like it doesn't find 3ds max on my computer. and the icon of my files dissapeared, now it's a white page. If i try to open, the "open with" window appears, i click "browse" and chose 3ds max but nothing actually happens..

i'm attaching 2 images of how it looks

has this happened to anyone? :/

Be careful when uninstalling older 3dsmax versions on you systems.
When i uninstalled 3dsmax2013 i managed not only to loose file associations but it also broke the skin-modifier of 3dsmax2014. I had to manually register maxcomponents.dll again to get it working.
