max 2010 - disable shift + transform?

Hello all, I am IT supporting a group of animators at my studio and the occasional transition from maya to max has caused some usability problems. We're using CAT in 2010 (many proprietary game systems only work with 2010 so that's where we are and cannot change) and there are some problems we're experiencing.

For example, shift clicking on a supermover will crash max. It's happening with enough regularity that we'd like to find a way to disable the shift + transform for cloning and just rely on the right click menu for some of the animators.

I have not been able to figure out how to unmap this functionality. My belief is that it's hard coded into max and that's just the way it is. Without using something like the switcher, is there an easy way to disable this?

Thank you very much for your time,
AJ

Not very helpful I'm afraid, but shift clicking doesn't clone any more. You have to actually drag to clone. At least since Max 2012. Can't remember when that was changed.

I have a feeling it's hard coded. I don't think I've heard of someone being able to customise the shift drag clone functionality.

What's a supermover? I've not heard of shift clicking crashing max. Normally it would just bring up the Do you want to clone? dialog box. Which is annoying, but not damaging.

It's a CAT bug I'm afraid, and since we're stuck on 2010 I guess we'll just adjust for now. I guess worse case scenario I can remove the left shift key from the keyboards. :P

A supermover (as the term is used around Portland) is the main control for moving a rigged character. Oftentimes it's a big circle on the ground that the entire rig is linked to. You can see one in this screenshot with the arrows on the circle. (I just looked for a random image here.)

Thank you for your time,
AJ

not exactly a max solution, but you can have a look at "sharpkeys" and "autohotkey"
they are used to remap keys in windows.. but i guess you can write some clever script which toggles them with max running

i use it for my mac, as there is no delete key - and i have to say, setting the tilde key as delete is something i consider also for my workstation (i delete a lot

That's actually a pretty good idea. I was constraining myself to thinking in max. I'll look into it, and thanks.
