Nitrous Viewport Light Setup

Just creating a basic light set up in 3ds Max 2012 using nitrous view port. I am trying to create just a basic sphere but rendered correctly.

I have a omni light and skylight in the scene below. I am attempting to set it up correctly such that the terminus (middle portion of the sphere) is shaded the darkest only second to the accent (where the sphere touches the ground and creates a dark cast shadow). As well as having some bounce light in the shadow area of the sphere.

Currently my scene lacks both a dark terminus and the bounce light in the shadow side of the sphere. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

You can't because the viewport does not render GI

GI refers to global illumination yes? I suppose I will need to create a proper vray setup then yes?
