Set Affinity for ANYPROGRAM on a 32 Core Machine

To Set Affinity for ANYPROGRAM to 28 of 32 possible cores for and leave some cores open for other stuff

I found examples for 4 and 8 core machines but after that it got obtuse to me. Finally I asked a programmer and he gave me the answer I needed fairly quickly.

To make this easy, lets just turn them on and off in sets of four. To keep cores 1-4 open and assign cores 5-32 to Max, you would use FFFFFFF0. To keep cores 1-8 open, you would use FFFFFF00. To use only the top half (16) of your cores, you'd use FFFF0000 (Zeros and F's)

With max as an example: You would alter your windows shortcut to this :

for 16 of 32 cores
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /wait /belownormal /affinity FFFF0000 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2013\3dsmax.exe" 3dsmax

for 20 of 32 cores
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /wait /belownormal /affinity FFFFF000 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2013\3dsmax.exe" 3dsmax

for 24 of 32 cores
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /wait /belownormal /affinity FFFFFF00 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2013\3dsmax.exe" 3dsmax

for 28 of 32 cores
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /wait /belownormal /affinity FFFFFFF0 "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2013\3dsmax.exe" 3dsmax

Thanks for sharing. Good info.

I typically reserve Core 0 for everything BUT max. Pflow (and a bunch of other single-thread systems within max for that matter) likes to hog a single core and I would prefer to actually do something while it is sitting there churning away
