Question Working with voxels on 3ds Max

Hey guys, first post here.

I'm working on a college project which basically simulates Minecraft voxel-based look. As I'm new to 3ds Max I was going to ask if you guys have any tips on working with voxels within the software.

What I did so far was to set my grid to infinite and its unit to 5x5. But I think I'm doing something wrong since when I have like 20 cubes on my grid, it starts to get really slow to edit (and my machine is quite good). I'm working with object instances instead of copy or reference. Maybe that's wrong?

Would be nice to hear your thoughts and get some help here.

Thank you.
