3ds Max - Creating a large open environment

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a scene in 3ds max where I have a plane that is flying through the sky. I'm trying to figure out how to create a large open environment to make it look like the plane is flying at a high altitude.

I've tried using the environment background with mental ray, but it ends up getting stretched and it doesn't look right.

This is an example of what I'm trying to achieve:

Basically in this example, you can notice how there is a large open ground, with a cloudy skyline.

Any suggestions on how to create an environment like this with max and mental ray?

Hi Miles,

For an aimge or an aniamtion? Typically you would use the MRsky to get the lighting right but us photoshop or a compositing program to get your rendering into an environment.
