Lightbulb Add Max button or menu item to launch a pdf file or navigate to a folder

Hi all

Can I customise a max button or add a menu item that when clicked, will either launch a pdf or navigate to the folder of the pdf so the user can click and view the pdf? Almost like a help file, but a pdf?

Sure check the maxscript help file term "ShellLaunch". The ShellLaunch() function allows you to fire off external apps + any command line params if they have any.

As JohnnyRandom said. Here is a usage example.

shelllaunch "C:/folder/File.pdf" ""

You can copy and paste that line into the 3ds Max Listener. Then select the text and drag and drop it onto a toolbar.

If you want to open a specific folder you can do it this way:

folder = "C:\\Intel\\"
shelllaunch (sysInfo.windowsdir + "\\explorer.exe") ("/e,\"" + folder + "\"")
