Random rotations with delay

Hey there.

First up, i'm using 3DS Max 2011.

I've got an idea that i want to put into practice. It consists of various rectangles laid out next to each other in an orderly fashion. Imagine a 6x6 layout.

I want to have the camera animate over the grid and then after a while have the rectangles rotate around 180 degrees so we see the other side of them. For this rotation, i want it to happen in a random order and with a slight delay so say over the course of 1-2 secs they are all rotated but some happen quicker than others and some start sooner than others but at the 2sec stage they are all rotated.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks
Andrew

That sounds like the sort of thing Clovis Gay has done.

Check the transform scripts:

Radius influence and such about half way down the page. Not sure what's actually available.

Joker Martini to the rescue!

Key Transfer

This sounds like exactly what you need, plus it's free.

You can use pflow with scripting for this.
Create pattern with objects, then create particle per object with its shape and position (or use standard shape) and then rotate
here is simple example:
