Animating Trees with multple instances

Hi,

I would like to animate the leaves/branches on my tree blowing in the wind. I instanced 200 trees and added flex modifier and wind space warp with turbulance. The problem is the trees all seem to be blowing identically..

Is there a way to randomize it some how or offset the animations?

The problem lies within the instancing of the objects.
It's taking the information from 1 flex modifier and using it on all your objects.

Try using references with unique flex modifiers instead to get what you're after.
Be warned though, 200 unique flex modifiers will probably kill your system, so "save" is your best friend on this one.

Hope that helped!

This will sound sorta ridiculous, but attach all your trees into one object, apply flex to the entire group? I've found weird cases where doing this actually seems to improve speed...it seems like Max has an easier time handling 1 object with very many polys vs many objects with many polys.

Or I might just be crazy.

Either way, yea, save a copy before you try it .____.

Thanks for the replies. Whenever I make any of the instanced modifiers unique it disappears from the modifier stack. And copy and pasting modifiers won't work for some reason. Any ideas? I don't want to add two noise modiers, adjust 8 params individualy for 200 trees.

Thanks again.
