Unhappy excluding a mrProxy from ambient occlusion

Hi, I am having an issue with excluding a mrProxy object from the occlusion using object ID.
To quickly test this:
Set up a test scene with a plane and a few teapots on it, and give them all a material using the "Ambient/Reflective Occlusion" map. Change one of the teapot's object ID to 3, and set the "non-self occluding Object ID" to 3 in the map. The teapot now receives occlusion from the plane and other teapots, but not itself. Now make a mrProxy of a teapot, and also give this an object ID of 3. This time, the mrProxy does not respond to the map setting and it still occludes itself, which is very frustrating!
Does anyone know a workaround? I've got a tight deadline and desperately need this feature to work with the proxies.
