How to animate construction of building?

Hi all, is there an easy trick to animate a construction of a building? Please refer to the youtube video below, especially on 0:15 - 020:

for a quick workflow an animated "slice" modifier combined with a "cap holes" modifier can bring you pretty far too. Depending on the job it's a lot of work by hand though.
