Good alternatives to treestorm

Hi,

Are they are any good alternatives to Treestorm out there?

I'm getting a little fed up that they charge a $100 for a recompile and don't actually advance the software.

I bought the pre-sales for When Nature Calls (emecstudios), and that's been 'soon' for a couple of years, and the actual plant module is still not out.

Just looking for a good tree/plant plugin with support for animation/wind.

Thanks,

Steve

I'm pretty sure both GrowFX and Speedtree support animation

Hey Steve

Just bought myself a copy of GrowFX. Amazing plugin! It will take a couple of hours until you feel comfortable with it because of so many options.

Cheers!

David

Yeah, GrowFX looks pretty impressive.

Shame that Onyx just rested on their laurels - it's not changed in years.

When Nature Calls looked like it could really be great, but no idea why it has just stalled.

thanks,

Steve

GrowFX is a little gem of a plugin. Highly recommended from me as well.

Cool, thanks.

Quick question - do you think GrowFX is able to loop animations using wind?

It's one of the things I've been asked for in the past and never found a manageable way to loop them in Treestorm.

Cheers

Can't remember if it does, sorry. And I'm not on my workstation now so that I can check. If it doesn't, you can always fix some looping using a copied object with an offset pointcache, by morphing over to that cached animation.

The manual is available for download, it should say it it's possible. I'm on a mac at the moment, so no .chm for me:

Growfx kicks ass, the developer may also incorporate suggestions and communicates promptly to emails.

I've not used the animation aspects though but this is a solid plugin.

Point Cache/Xmesh the Tree animation, take a snapshot of the first frame tree then do a morph to make it loop?

Oh Sorry Dave - I totally missed this post...

Anyway... I just really wanted to say I bought GrowFX recently, and it is very, very good.

Even though the site focuses on Trees, it's very flexible so could be used for anything which branches/grows.

Very impressed.

Cheers

Steve

Wise choice, Steve! You won't regret it! About the animation loop, I really didn't try to do any, maybe Dave's method will work out! I usually do without looping, but the file's size get really big! I tried making Vray animated proxies but it ended up being even bigger than point cache (1.5 GB vs 200 Mb )

Just for fun, here's something I did a while ago
