Maxstart Settings without Admin Account?

Hi,

Im having trouble figuring out how to get Max to remember my custom settings (keyboard, quads etc.).
At home I just run max as admin, but at work my boss only wants the workstations to not run as admin, because he said he ran into trouble with admin rights and files not opening correct or rendering on the farm.
But when I start max now, it only remembers some settings and it doesnt remember others:
It remembers my toolbars, but not the quads and shortcuts for example...
Im running Max 2012 by the way...

Set Max they way you want it then save it as Maxstart.max in your scene folder

Hi,

@lucpet: this is correct for the settings that are scene-specific. However, insertmesh asks for settings like keyboard shortcuts that are defined globally.

@insertmesh: I think you're using the 3ds max folder in "c:\program files" at home? There is another folder, max uses to get the settings for: "c:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\<yourmaxversion>\ENU\en-US\UI\"
Putting files like "MaxStartUI.kbd" in there will ensure that your shortcuts stay the same on every startup.

I hope this helps for you (as I often have the feeling, max forgets some shortcuts from time to time and I'm not sure if it's my fault or a bug..)
Chris
