Question Compact Material Editor- What's wrong with my interface?

Hi there! I am astudent with Art Institute Online and I am taking my first class in 3D modeling. For this class we are required to useAutodesk 3DS Max 2012, which I have.Things have been going mostly fine up until this past week when westarted working with the Compact Material Editor. When I opened it up, my interface was a bitdifferent from what was shown in the tutorial...

This is what the tutorial shows me that I should have...

This is what came up when I opened it on my computer...

Did you notice that my interface box has nothing about"Shader Basic Parameters" or "Blinn Basic Parameters"? I have"Templates" and "Main Material Parameters" and I scrolldown through the list of sub-headings for manipulating materials and all alongthe way it is nothing like what is shown in the tutorial.

I need to know how to make the software show the interfacethat the tutorial, my class lessons, and all sorts of online videos say that Ishould have. Can anyone here help me?

My class is all online, I have emailed my instructor the twoimages I show here, but I am impatient. My hope is that someone here will recognize the problem and be able totell me how to correct it.I have notmade any permanent setting changes to the software since I installed it.This is actually me second time taking thisclass, the first time was a few months back when I got this far then mycomputer crashed, I had the same issue then.Same software, same issue, new computer, new download.

Someone please help me!
