Standard SkyLight

Under 3DS Max's standard lights, there is Skylight. What is that use for?
To me, it doesn't really produce good results :( and when I turn on Cast Shadows, it takes forever to render

It's best used with mentalRay as an image-based lighting source with or without GI. So think of it as a global scene ambient indirect light rather than a direct light source.
