Difference between direct light and spot light

I was playing around these two lights and couldn't figure out how they are different. They both produce that same circular beam like a flashlight and the falloff can be adjusted. Do you guys see any difference between direct light and spot light?

A spot light emits light from a single point, so the shadows get bigger the further they are away from the object.

A direct light emits light parallely, so shadows keep the same size with growing distance.

Direct lights should for example be used for simulated sunlight, as the sun emits it light virtually parallely, because of its size and distance.
