Trouble adding IK onto existing CAT rig

I have a character that I've rigged with CAT, and it walks around pretty well. I added a series of addition bones for the four "arms" on the front, but I can't hook up addition IK chains to them. In my case, the character has four fireballs that hover in front of each arm. I'd like to have the position of the fireball and direction that the arm points to be controlled by the same dummy pointer. But for some reason I'm unable to link them with an IK chain.

I'm able to set up IK on some random boxes elsewhere in the scene (just to make sure I still knew how). Any idea why the bones in my CATrig won't allow additional IK?
