MR Shadow Issue

I have a geometry sample (in the file linked below) that is representative of a large amount of geometry in my file that is rendering unwanted shadows in MR.
I suspect that the geometry is to thin to render correctly. Almost coplanar??
I have tried back face cull.
I don't really want to have to delete faces as this could take a lot of time.
All normals seem to be correct.

just deleted the back faces and it does solve but dont want to have to run this solution over the whole object (400k tris)

I believe the "problem" (if I understand the issue correctly) has nothing to do with your geometry. It's your scene.
1. There's no bounced light so the underside of the object is black. Fix: Add a skylight.
2. You're using a shadow mapped light source with a projection map. The shadow map settings are low quality and add the projection map too that and it gets messy. Fix: Switch to raytraced shadows.
3. Apply a material to the object.

Attached adjusted file.

HI Jeff
Thanks for that.
I'll take a look at your file.
Its not the underside of the object i'm concerned with - its the top. Where there are 'shadows' appearing on top. If i turn shadows off the errant shadows disappear.

That's related to your shadow type, it's settings, the projection map, and to a degree your a/a settings.

Switch the light over to raytraced shadows and increase the image sampling (a/a) to min:1 and max:16. If you must use shadow maps then you'll need to increase the resolution/sample settings there in addition to the image sampling rate.

Thanks Jeff.
That solved it. Raytraced shadows solved it.
Much obliged.
