Paths for distribution rendering

hi,

Could anyone help me out with setting the right config in Max so that my laptop which is as slave, and renders in distribution rendering, would read all textures from my desktop.
I don't want to copy all 8gb of textures onto it. I added my desktop paths in 'configure user paths' on laptop but that doesn't seem to be the trick.

To be more precise: I have maps on G:\maps, where G is my second drive in my desktop.
This 'Maps' folder is set as 'shared' on network and it's visible.
On my laptop I went into the 'configure user paths' and add this path in Max..
And nothing.What I'm doing wrong?

thx!

In max go to File -> manage (?) -> Asset manager. Select the maps that are on G:\ and right-click -> Retarget Common Root. Now put in the network path of the textures. Say if the folder was G:\Maps\ you now need to set it to e.g. //desktop/maps/. Save the scene. If you open it on your laptop it should be able to read them in teh correct location.

Thanks Ren, however there's one thing I don't get.
I'm doing it all on my desktop, right? I open the file and go to assets.
Maps are on G:, and You said that I should set it to e.g. //desktop/maps - but this path is what? You said this is network path, but how should I know it?
Sorry, but I just don't quite understand.

Thanks.

Even easier!

Map your desktops G: drive on your laptop to the G: drive as well. Use the "map network location" tool in explorer.

It should take less than 15 seconds to solve your issue.

thanks aaron, and what should I do with maps that are stored in default folder in
c:\program files\autodesk\3ds max\maps on my desktop? Cause I also have maps there and new maps usually save to this locaction, so in laptop this folder should mapped as well in the same way ?

Aaron, thanks.
I just save new maps to G: folder, so that all is common then.
It all seems to be working.
Thanks for all help.
