I would like to know the answer to this question as well. Vray handles tranparency just fine with their fast sss material, but in mental ray any attempt to apply tranparency messes up the sss effect.

Unfortunately your link does not address the question.

Answer is simple - bad implementation of MR in the 3ds max.
Try to dig this thread http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=209628, I'm sure you find the answer.

Hi Jon,

at 3dsmax2012 i have not a quick solution, but at 3dsmx2013 i have optimized the SSS 2 Shader with transparency. Please download Shader Utilities at 3dsmax2013.
