What was it that you said to me all those years ag in class now Marcel? You wondered if it wa a good idea for you to program instead of doing the art side.

This in just about one of the most fantastic aditions to max that I have seen.

No kidding, this opens up so much it's almost too much to comprehend.

wow....
that is something similar to ICE if im not mistaken? where you can create your own deformers etc etc?

This is the coolest thing I've seen in years in max!
Can't wait to try it out

This looks really neat, and I am already looking forward to all the crazy plugins this will inspire.

Zookeeper

What's the difference between this and Zookeeper?

Old 02 February 2012   #13
Looks interesting, but would it be possible for someone with advanced scripting or programming knowledge to elaborate on the kind of possibilities this will open up? It clearly looks to make development easier, more flexible, and bring more options to the table for people making their own tools. But how large of an impact could this framework potentially have?

From what I see in the video (and I know nothing more than what's in the video) it simply closes if not eliminates the gap between TD and software developer; bringing all the power of the SDK geometry pipeline to a dynamic realtime environment, not unlike Houdini. Would be cool if the developer gave us some more details.

Its great to see all the interest and enthusiasm! The cat is out of the bag but there is still plenty of work to be done before Cortex can achieve its potential. We have been developing this tool for the past few years and at this point it is in an Alpha stage.

Cortex does share similarities with ICE. I've never actually used ICE beyond simple tests and from what I've seen it is definitely powerful and great for particle work and plugin development. Perhaps Cortex can be an ICE node some day and/or vice versa

Zookeeper works with existing 3dsmax objects externally. Essentially it takes all existing things in your scene and connects them together. Cortex allows you to create new plugins "under the hood", which can then participate in Max scenes. So, Zookeeper can be looked as macro-managing your scene and Cortex as micro-managing. Together they complement each other well.

I'd say possibilities like making your own modifiers, textures, controllers, procedural geometry, etc. Think scripted controller except faster, more flexible, and more visual. Plus, reusability is one of the key features.. writing something once and then reusing it and sharing it with others.

Yes, Houdini is a good example.

We will be starting an alpha/beta program in the near future and will be looking for people's opinions about how to further shape the product.
