Beginner here with a question about a controller

I'm doing a little exercise that consists of animating a ball bouncing on three consecutive boxes. Every time the ball touches one of the boxes, each box will bounce up and down in a spring-like motion. I know I can do it manually, but I have to use the Spring controller for it. I got it all done pretty easily, except getting the Spring controller to work on the boxes.

I apllied the controller to each box and then tried increasing and decreasing the different spinners of the controller, but I can't get it to work. Is there some obvious thing I'm passing by? Do I have to combine controllers to get it right?

I used Spring a couple of times before with much more simpler stuff, but just now I'm having this problem. Could someone help me? Please.

Thanks in advance from this grateful n00b.

No one?

I know it's probably a very stupid question, but I'm just getting started with it. I even checked the Help from the program, but I can't seem to find what I'm doing wrong.

Is anything causing the boxes to move in the first place? The spring controller will only cause object to jiggle around in reaction to what movement they already have, and max won't calculate the collision between the boxes and ball automatically.

I finally got it to work. Thanks for the help, anyway.
