Physical Material SSS

Hi I just upgraded to Max 2018. Bye bye Mental Ray but I am still getting used to the Arnold renderer at the moment and the Physical Material which was introduced in 2017?

It seems I am unable to get SSS to work even in Scanline. is there something I missed out like Physical Material SSS only works in ART or Arnold?

You need to use the Standard Surface shader: https://support.solidangle.com/disp...face+Scattering

Many material types are not compatible in certain renderers, for example the Scanline renderer only supports basic materials.

Physical Material doesn't work with Scanline, and SSS in general is not possible in Scanline since this renderer doesn't handle SSS at all. As you say the Physical Material will only work in ART and Arnold. If you want advanced SSS controls, use Arnold as suggested by darthviper, SSS in ART is not accurate and very limited.

Thanks but Arnold is seriously SLOW.....
