I can't wait to see Charlie Brown's existential anxiety brought to life in 3D. But will Linus still quote Bible verses? Will Schroeder have abandoned Beethoven for Skrillex? Are the kids going to carry smartphones and affect hip urban attitudes?

The comic was meant to be a bit of a boring downer because it was addressing adult fears through the depictions of cute children. Something tells me that isn't the film they are going to make.

Hollywood; destroying your childhood favourites one multi-million-dollar film at a time. I very much doubt that those involved will preserve the subtlety and hidden nuances of the original comic, many of which only became apparent if you read the strips as an adult and had some life behind you. Hollywood and subtlety - the very notion makes me laugh (and then cry).

But when did we, of all people, become the ones who say "no, you can't do that."

I don't think it's a matter of "can't", more a matter of "shouldn't". Why take something special to many people and ruin it by committee? I can already imagine the trailer 'Jack Black stars as Charlie Brown - and this time you know he's going to kick that football'.

There's an unfortunate trend to re-invent things and it can be bad. Stooges for example. We can't leave the stooges in the 40. The original stooge team didn't stay there either.
I understand the red flags. There's a precedent.
Hopefully the people involved know what they're doing with Charlie Brown. I'm willing to risk a bad movie instead of no try at all. Plus, hey, some animators get employed.

The odds may be bad, but not impossible.

Stooges. Just can't watch it because of nuns in swimsuits.
Flintstones... Not so good. The second one I thought was better.
Rocky and Bullwinkle. Not so good.
Looney toons back in action. Good try anyway.
Land before time. It may have taken 12 tries, but they got a lot better.
Scooby Doo. Not so good. Scoob would never in a million years slap Scrappy across the room like that. But Lillard went on to do a good job with doing the shaggy voice on the cartoons. Not everyone thinks hes the best, but I think he adds some humanity to the part. Everyone else was just doing the voice.
Chipmunks. Not everyone liked them, but there some of my favorite movies.
Thunderbirds. I think this movie is underrated. Sure its not just like the original, but it's a fun kids movie, and the pacing is exceptional.
