Real-time rendering in Maya with Creation

Hi guys - here's a look at something we're showing at Siggraph: our real-time renderer hooked into Maya. When compared to Maya's own viewport, it's pretty much the same performance for just the geometry drawing. However, once we get to lights it starts getting interesting: with 80 lights on this scene, viewport 2.0 gives maybe 5fps. We are running this in the Creation RTR with 80 lights, plus 4 area lights, plus soft shadows and getting about 47 fps on a laptop.

We'll be showing the same functionality for Max soon.

Thanks,

Paul

Another video showing the RTR in Maya, this time for animation authoring on heavyweight assets.

That's pretty cool. Will it do more complex (.e. deformation-based) rigs?

Yes, we have a few demos we'll be showing at Siggraph which show skinned characters etc

Great. Will those be going up on your website? (I'm not going to make it to siggraph unfortunately)

Yes - we'll try and record and upload this weekend, but we're relying on hotel internet so they might have to wait until we get back. I will also try and record the user groups and upload those.
