Actuated 3-D Display with Haptic Feedback
Microsoft continues research for bridging the gap between real and virtual world.
I don`t know if that will ever play a role in creating CG content, but maybe a variant of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oDvHahiYuI#at=90 |

I don't know about that Magnus. Personally I cannot think of any use for this, apart from making apps.

I could see it being used for location based entertainment (theme parks and the like). I can't think of many other uses off hand.

Do you guys really not see any use for this? That is basically the same reaction to all of Microsoft's tablet research. And then along came the "iStuff".
To me this looks like the stepping stones to an Iron Man like interface. This would also be a really cool addition to the 3DS no-glasses 3D display but first they would need to get the cost and footprint way down. __________________

No, it won't be useful much because of a few things---one is that you can only use one finger. The second is that even if it's moving forwards and backwards to simulate 3D as you press on it, you're still pressing on a flat surface. You only feel one point in space rather than how you might feel a difference in the curvature across the surface of your finger. Also, touch screens aren't terribly easy to slide your finger across beyond a few swipes so notice how difficult it was for him to move his finger on the surface while pressing down. Too much friction.
