How do we nag Autodesk to lift the restriction on Max's viewport so we can see VRay RT realtime in the viewport as well? That video showing this functionality in Maya is sweeeeet!

You can already get VrayRT in a viewport. View>Extended Viewports>ActiveShade (assign VrayRT as activeshade). Unfortunately, I don't think you can navigate around like you can in other viewports (or like in the Maya video).

Looks like a pretty decent release though, looking forward to brute force speed boost.

Can anyone shed some light on what some of the other things mentioned are - render subset? Trace sets? The remedy for last bucket syndrome that wasn't mentioned before and shall not be mentioned now?

Trace sets is : you can tell to a object A to, for example, reflect on object B but not on object C.

An educated guess would say it will be able to split buckets into smaller sub-buckets as rendering threads become idle.

I think it is major release! OpenExr 2 and deep comp looks amazing. also that material transfer will be very useful occasionally.

Good stuff. Bit of a downer though that the user group at Siggraph is on Friday. Most people are gone by then.

V-Ray Day

Actually, if you're going to be at Siggraph, be sure to check out V-Ray Day on Wed. It's the extended version of Friday's User Group. Presentations by ILM, Digital Domain, Method Studios, Pixomondo, ScanlineVFX, Zoic, and of course a preview of V-Ray 3.0.
