I'm in the same boat, and have the box and a PS3. The big deal about it is being able to swap games with friends, call over to their houses for sleepovers and bring some games over, bring some others home etc. It's almost a social thing, which MS would do well to take heed of. Their new strategy would have killed that off overnight.
