Richard Williams Releases ďAnimatorís Survival KitĒ iPad App

Quote from Cartoon Brew:
"The Richard Williams Animatorís Survival Kit iPad app that we announced a couple months ago is out today. Itís available for $34.99 on the Apple Store, a bargain when you consider the DVD version of the Survival Kit costs nearly a grand. "

Does it include the video lectures from the DVD's? I've seen bits and pieces of the lectures over the years and always been really keen to watch it all, but not had $1000 to spare.

CGTalk forum member Floyd Bishop wrote a first look review for this app over at Indiewire's Animation Scoop, and he says that the iPad app doesn't contain all the video lectures, so if you want the complete collection, you'll need to spend $1000 for the DVD set.

How is 1000 dollars for a bunch of recorded lectures a justified price?

I'm just gonna say it, in this day and age he's just begging to get torrented.

Yeah it's a shame they're so expensive. From what I've seen, it's a really enjoyable and hugely informative series of lectures. Williams seems to have a wonderful sense of charisma, not surprising I suppose.

I can only speculate that the $1000 is possibly based on the cost of attendance of the original lecture. The studios/individuals that might've paid a similar figure to sit in on a talk, would probably be pretty unhappy if the DVD's of the same talk came out for $30 the following week.

Not to mention the feelings of those who did purchase the set at $1000 if they dropped the price now.

That book was my "bible" at uni, at least while I was still working on character stuff.

I actually met his son last week - nice chap!
