3D-Coat v4 Promo

3D-Coat version 4.0 must be nearing release. There's a new video showing some of the latest features.

All of these are available in the current beta version, which can be downloaded and tried for 30 days from the forum post below. Beta updates are coming frequently, one arrived yesterday and another a week before that.

Looks fantastic upgrade. I hope that price won't rise up too much.

This is absolutely my choice for detailed character sculpting when i will need it .

At the moment i use C4D's and Modo's scultping tools, but i can see that 3D-coat is much much better solution for high detailed sculpting. All those new tools looks great, can't wait the demo version. Also the user interface was much better in 3D coat v3 than in Zbrush.

Music was also great much better than in Lightwave's or Modo's videos

Yeah i bought a copy 6 months ago and have been very impressed by the updates. I still love my zbrush but it knocks it out of the park for texturing. Its not mari but for personal needs i couldnt want anything more (famous last words ).

Oh my god.....

Why didn't I try hard surface modeling in 3dcoat before. The cutoff tool is my dream come true. It is lightyears ahead of zbrush in that department.

I like how the big three sculpting app developers (Pixologic, Pilgway and Autodesk) are keeping pressure on each other. This particular area of CG is innovating and evolving by leaps and bounds! Competition is good.

The nature of the app makes it so that you're practically working off a very dense dynamesh at all times. I'm not surprised he's cooking that kind of stuff so well now that he's got to it.

I reckon this version is the one I'll give a try again to 3Dcoat if we're updating our licenses at work.

The retopo and uv tools are the main thing we've kept it around for, it's worth the price for those alone, but since it apparently exchanges with ZBrush just fine, there's no reason not to move the occasional subtool over 3DC for the things it might be doing better as a stepping stone.

I'm surprised you included AD in there. If anything I've been sort of resentful of how they dealt with mudbox insofar, they seem to have completely, or near so, forgotten the sculpting side of it.

The retopo tools are nice, but I can't say I would replace topogun (100$) with them, and it takes literally several minutes to actually mesh something out. Longer than it takes to QRemesh something sketchily and do a pass in topogun.

There's no reason the mesh has to be dense.

I'm not saying it has to be dense in 3DCoat, I'm saying that the approach of 3Dcoat makes it the equivalent of a massively dense dynamesh in ZBrush but without the price, and again due to the volume approach, wouldn't suffer for the same clipping limitations. Speaking of which, is there the equivalent of ZBrush clipping brush with the line brush?

Not going to bother with a beta to be honest, free or not, if I have the luxury to have the final software available at work during lunch breaks with rain season coming (making them desk lunch breaks), but I will most likely give it a go once it ships

Oh I see, I misunderstood. My apologies. I'm not sure what the line brush is but many of the sculpting tools in 3DC have the option to cut all the way through the mesh in any shape including B-splines.

Sounds like it does. The curve clipping brush in ZBrush (the very first you see in the video) can be frustrating at times with the lack of curve persistence, but 99% of the time it's an extremely intuitive way to deal with multiple fast clips.
It's a cardinal curve you can stretch between clicks and add hidden points to with ALT.

Will see on release. Looking forward to it.
