Sorry if it has been posted already, but 3dsmax 2014 help is online - http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/16/...Help/index.html

What's new section is imo a really sad thing to look at.

Tangential question. Has Modo caught up on referencing and assets yet? Last I checked was 601 and it wasn't in there yet. Was a sticking point for me.

Is the resetting clipping planes bug fixed in Max 2014? Or we should wait for Max 2020 for this bug to be fixed?

i did a quick google search and found a link to the lux forum where that was an issue for 601.

http://forums.luxology.com/topic.aspx?f=4&t=60558

I guess you will have to look at their docs to see if its addressed in 701.

I did, nothing new in the docs. Looks like referencing didn't get any love. I'll try their forums and stop derailing the max thread.

and this hi-lights for me exactly what's wrong with recent developments of mental ray inside of 3dsmax

http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...v=uSR_y4e3gQQ#!

Cebas get it right and offer real workflow enhancements..autodesk...put a new renderer in 3dsmax...give up on mental ray it's going no where.

that's pretty cool, and I can see how that might be useful for a workflow but they do say it's the only render that does that (so far). I don't think vray does that either, although I havn't used it in a while.
I won't use cebas anymore on principle though. Vray is probably the most well rounded render. There are a bunch that are great at something though.

i believe when he says "the only renderer" he's referring to 3dsmax as both lightwave and modo have preview renderers that are very fast and also do NOT need a GPU at all the make them fast and blender has cycles that can take advantage of GPU's.

bottomline is that mental ray is old hat and development under Nvidia's help has all but stopped.

I only want a better UI Performace, no Viewport Performace. I am going to stay with 2009 again.
