Pretty much, we didn't even get an SAP last year because they said they wanted to give the extra time to the "new team" to pump out even better things. As we can see, that didn't seem to happen - very disappointing.

Is this a bad joke? This company bought Softimage, a glorious piece of software and is transforming it little by little into a piece of obsolete junk. I am terribly dissapointed.

wow this softimage update is really underwhelming.... (this is a years work for a team? i mean really??)

and didnt they show an overall scene sequencer in a video? (which would be helpful for a change, but i'm quite curious how its implemented with all simulations and caches, if it didnt get canned)

the maya updates look nice, though....

well basically :
- they buy NEX and plug it into Maya
- they add the grease pencil into Maya
- they start to integrate Disney XGen tools into Maya
- they modify the icons of the Maya Docs

These are stunning update ... impressive !

Maya looks amazing.

You can now pan the Outliner view using Alt + Middle mouse Click.
I've been wanting that feature for years.

Now we know why adsk bought softimage... To kill it! Very verry sad.

Anyway... Softimage, even in its current state is a much better app than Maya will ever be.

This is totally right. Even Softimage 7.0 is still a great, reputable piece of 3d software. Nobody else has tools like Gator and Ultimapper yet.

Although I do share your view of Softimage being the best s/w as of now, there's no need to start a flaming war here. At least not between us, aim your gun at Autodesk.

It might be interesting to see how Autodesk employees will respond to the new Softimage. Will they praise the release as if it's just one more in a long line of "perfect releases", or will even they admit there's "something rotten in the state of Denmark" (or wherever they develop Softimage these days). Only some pretty good damage control could prevent a mass exodus ATM I'm afraid.
