i wonder how the modeling tools will be improved in maya 2014

AD also intends to make tools more affordable and accessible.

Yeah, right. They just made licenses more expensive and upgrading even more punitive. Talking out of both sides of their mouth. That whole article was full of verbal marketing gymnastics.

I got two words for Autodesk. 1) Blen and 2) der. Ok....maybe that's just one. but it's a pretty good one.

It seems every year, the beta testers on these forums, always say "just wait and see, the new features are amazing". But it seems every year, disappointments follow the release.

For what app would that be?
I don't remember the last time I saw an actual beta tester for Soft or Maya post that. I don't follow MAX though, so maybe it happened there

Not really sure they are actually real beta tester but here and here and here.
That's very common in maya forums

Last year people's expectations for Soft 2013 were pretty high because of this "it's gonna be great" talk - most people were heavily disappointed though, so my expectations are pretty low even though I hope for the best.

I've never seen a bunch of more sceptical and critical guys towards their application of choice than the betatesters . Speaking of the Max side here, which i know.

I posted this over in the thread in the 3ds Max forum, but thought it might be of use here too:

Quote: Skipped over it the first time, but with a second look I noticed some other changes too... Click the images to enlarge.

Here you can see the menus have changed. Of particular note is the "Crowds" menu, most probably Project Gepetto coming out of Autodesk Labs.

The "Simulate" and "Manage" menus also draw my interest, would be great to see some more tools in those areas.

Also, the "Sign In" drop down on the right hand side, which I assume will be for signing in with our subscription/account details. Potentially notifying us of Product Updates and better bug tracking?

This is where it gets a bit more interesting. Once again, the menus have changed, with additional icons. What could have been in the "Crowds" menu in the previous screenshot has been moved to the Ribbon, which again points to Project Gepetto being integrated as the public beta had its controls in the Ribbon too.

Another thing that has me curious is the fonts and window manager. It reminds me of a Unix/Linux graphical desktop. Of course I could be completely wrong. Thinking about it, it may even be a tweaked Windows 8 theme. And yes, I know that it would be almost impossible for 3ds Max to be ported to another OS due to its dependency on Windows technology, but hey, wishful thinking and all

Wouldn't Apple have to start supporting DX 11 for that to be practical ? (or even up to date Open GL drivers for that matter).

Cheers,
Brian
