Digital Domain Auction

FYI for those of you who didn't know, DIGITAL DOMAIN in Port St Lucie went bancrupt and all goods are being auctioned off- Today was the in person/online auction of sale 1- I went in person but gotta be honest with you, when someone bids 600 on an Intuos 3 Tablet (6inch wide format) that isn't proven to even be function and is sold AS-IS... Add to that the Auctioneers' premium of 15% and the 6.08% Port St Lucie tax then there goes the neighborhood. (Note:16.5% for online) Also the room was mostly winning because the internet could not keep up.

I have no idea what these ppl are thinking in this auction- first bid was 1 million for the entire collection- Rumor was that it was John Textor who placed that bid.

then the posters all went for crazy high prices close to 200. THe Sprinter Van went for 36k. Cintiqs went for over and close to retail.

Insane- I don't get the logic of buying at or above retail when A. it is AS-IS and gotta tell ya even the chairs we sat in were on the chopping block and were in shotty condition. B. They were grouping unlike items into ie. a lot of Intuos 4 large and Intuos 3 med for one price and obviously had no clue since most of the workstations lacked specs.

Some people just go crazy at auctions. I see it even on ebay where rubbish sells for mad money. I think some people forget to bring their brains with them when it comes to auctions.

Man you got that RIGHT! Ebay is terrible for this. I was trying to get a used older Fujitsu for my teenager and the dam things were going crazy then the other day a refurbish CO on ebay finally put 4220's for BUY IT NOW prices around 200 more reasonably- and there were still bids on the same model over 300/400.

Are they selling any software ?

Too bad non of this money goes back to the state of Florida, we got screwed on this hard. Well, I hope all of this was done with good intentions, not sure why this went so bad so fast. I've read the articles on it, and it doesn't sound flattering towards the company in general in how this came to be.

Some money goes back to Port St Lucie- 6% sales tax but only applies to people that AREN'T resellers.

According to some of the inventoried specs- they had Photoshop and other software on the workstations BUT not all workstations had specs- heck, most didn't even have the hardware specs.

They prices ppl were paying I wouldn't be surprised if A. Either people are that ignorant, B. there were auctioneers hidden in the pool bidding, C. all the above.

Think about it: the dude in front of me paid 600 for a less than 300 wacom tablet-
multiply by 16% for auction house then another 7% for tax that brings it over 700.

There is no logic most of the time. Mob mentality.

At the acution

I was also there.
It was a great place for a small business/studio.

Price on stuff was a bit high. I was ready to leave when the monitors started selling. It was set up for buying in bulk (several lots) and even then it was a little expensive.

There was a small studio from Orlando there (you know who you are), right in front of me, and they did away with some stuff, and if you knew the cost of some of the stuff, AND got in large lots, golden.

But yes, I must agree, expensive for the individual user.

Small business or not- overpaying is over paying- this could be the reason these businesses don't make it!

Every purchase I make, I make sure it's the best deal for that item. Guess it takes more common sense to know when to walk away from a bad deal then I had thought b4.

All mob nonsense aside, is there anything unique or cool being auctioned?

An HP Laserjet 1320 LMFAO- They're always breaking down at my work.

Serious items: Tvs, Projectors, a few Cintiqs- but the bids are already high IMO and there is still 12 hrs so they'll be sky high by the end- my advise, buy new. Don't waste your time.

I have friends that are obsessing over things on there LOL- and I fear for them. Buyer premium was raised to 18%

This means $18 on top of every hundred you spend plus sales tax on that entire amount- and you have to have an Insured moving co pick up large items.

Yes overpriced

I agree most items on both bids are overpriced (or will be when its all said and done)

On the question of software: no software. Some machines have been wiped, some as is. So it may have stuff or not.

On the first bid there was a first bid, for the whole thing. Someone called in and bit 1 million.
There were rumors of former CEO Textor bidding, but only rumors....well check out this article:

http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2012/dec...ate-in-digital/

"Another Internet bidder was former Digital Domain Studios CEO John Textor, who put in a bulk bid for the entire three days worth of items and also bought some individual items."

Yeah- been hearing this at work- doesn't matter because they will exceed 1Mil- I don't see how they won't the way these idiots are bidding. I gave it one more glance and just can't believe how high these items are- there is maybe one thing I think there's still a good deal on but it's still got 4 hrs left.
