Question: IK/FK Blend Method Best Practices...

I'd like to ask the TD's out there-- What are the best practices when it comes to rigging a character using the FK/IK Blend method? For example:

  1. Should actual bone chains be used for the FK and IK bone chains? Or does it cause confusion to see 3 sets of bones for all of the limbs? Would it be better to "de-clutter" the rig by using linked helpers for the FK and IK bone chains-- with the only visible bone chain for a limb being the skin bone set?
  2. What about just using the linked controls themselves for the FK limbs?
  3. Is there an accepted standard for color coding the FK and IK bones and controls? FK = blue, IK=green, etc.? Or does it matter as long as my color scheme is consistent on my character rig?

Feel free to comment on any other rigging best practices...
