So go on then. I'm beginning to be swayed by R13 buzz.

But how are my cars going to render better for the extra money? The physical render is mainly for blur and dof as i understand?

So what does everyone think?

The physical renderer has it's qualities in terms of lenseffects as dof and chromatic abberations and will come in handy for for still renders and matching to photography but I doubt I'd ever have the patience to use it for much animation related. The results are great, but it takes time.

If it's a worthwhile upgrade comes down to what you use the software for and what you want to get out of it.

Okay, so what i have derived from the answers is that it's got the dof & motion blur, with better render times (mostly on AO). Okay thanks guys.

Next on my website is my updated robot in disguise..

2007 Camaro

I was unhappy with the wheels on the earlier version and gave them a good seeing to, as well as some other little tweeks here and there.. (it's still very much a learning process)

Try the demo. If you feel you can live without it you probably can. There's tweaks and changes to the interface as well as other features besides the physical renderer in there.

Really nice work on the cars by the way!

tried the demo and i might sound like an old fuddy duddy (whatever that may be) but they move loads of things on the menu, placing things in sub-menus and i can't get the camera rotation working properly..

Here is my latest page, the RSQ. I'm working on a couple of new cars as well, just spreading myself thinly as i'm working on lots of things at once..

Here is a sneak peek at one of the new cars about to roll of the lot, ready for next weekends race in Singapore.

Texturing on this one was a nightmare, and i'm still not finished with it. I'd started to ease into just slapping a procedural textures on the cars..

As the tyres are so big i might try out a cloth object on them (for the ground collision), something i've been thinking about doing for ages but my tyres kept on getting thinner and thinner.

Still deciding weather or not it should be finished in Hamilton or Button's decals?

I went with the Jenson Button paint job. This car was much more difficult than my previous cars for a number of reasons-
Firstly, the amount of detail (of which there is a lot)
Secondly, the lack of wheel arches (forcing my hand on the way i had to do the wheels)
Thirdly, the sponsors decals adorned all over the car (very different experience from just dropping a basic paint texture on my previous cars)

Here is a link to it's page, quicktime vr and all..

The first view of my new car, the Jaguar E Type. Though this is a type 3 i thought i'd give it the shagadelic paint job from Austin Powers. I'm still tinkering with some details before i do the renders for my website..

In the mean time here is where i'm upto..

I've made some time to make a few wallpapers, first off the Aston Martin One77 i made for the opening clip on my site (which is on my to do list).

Next up is 2 versions of the Mustang i made, the second being a darker version. On each of my screens they colours, balance & brightness looks different.

So a simple question of preference, for a wallpaper, do you prefer the light or dark Mustang?

And now is the turn of an old beauty, from all the cars i've made i think this one is my favorite (so far). I'm not sure weather it's the shape & curves or just the story to the car but Christine sure is special. Quicktime VR, details & specs are on-site..
