UberTracer plugin (FREE) r11, r11.5, r12

Hi guys,

This is my first officially released plugin, UberTracer. It's gonna be an extension of the MoGraph Tracer Object, as Tracer is fairly limited when it comes to connecting its links to each other. UberTracer allows you to connect objects to multiple nodes, plus options to limit how they are connected. If the object has elements inside, i.e. polygons, splines, Thinking Particles, you can also connect those no problem.

All object types can be connected, but there are limitations when you want to use elements inside objects. Currently these are incompatible or have some quirky behavior:

cannot retrieve elements from generators that have virtual hierarchies:
• ARRAY OBJECT
• BOOLE OBJECT
• SYMMETRY OBJECT
• ATOM ARRAY
• MOGRAPH INSTANCE OBJECT
• FRACTURE OBJECT
• PARTICLE EMITTER OBJECT

some unwanted behavior:
• FIGURE OBJECT *only core sphere is retrieved.
• INSTANCE OBJECT *must uncheck render instances to work
• CLONER OBJECT *doesn't work at the moment, but you can use the Matrix object as an alternative.
• MATRIX OBJECT *use Generate Thinking Particles. For some reason using Matrices Only connects the cube visual helpers... kinda weird.
• THINKING PARTICLES *no problem in execution, but it doesn't recognize TP hierarchies. You still need to add the PGroup children to the link list.
• LATHE NURBS * UberTracer can use points from the Lathe NURBS, but Lathe can't access the points from UberTracer.

for spline objects:
• Currently UberTracer only accesses the control points of splines; it ignores subdivisions. Two workarounds would be to manually subdivide the spline, or drop the spline into a Spline Mask Object, as it converts subdivisions to control points.

There are still tons of features I'm working on, including letting you connect one group's elements exclusively to another, randomization, and a few more. After those are done, I'll work on adding the Trace Paths mode, and a few more features that would come up.

Please send me your feedback on this thread or through email at thatguy@genemagtoto.com. If you can think of more features that I can squeeze in, don't hesitate.

Looks great, nice work. Tracer definitely gets very wild sometimes, this looks just the ticket. I'll keep an eye out for the Mac version!

@Joel,
Yeah, Mac builds pending. Sorry I don't have a blow your mind-level video sample... The computer I'm working on is pretty weak. It's one reason I started plugin coding, actually . Anyways, here's a very short demo. It's just sad that debugging the plugin requires turning Cinema4D on and off repeatedly, so I barely have time to render anything...

@Renι,
Thanks for the promotion, hehehe.

@Kevin,
I'd really appreciate it if you can help me compile the Mac builds. Can I send you a PM when I have the code ready? I just have to finish up one update. It's for connecting one group to another, so it could work for things like hierarchical trees. I know the web setup is still a bit unmanageable, so this should boost its usefulness.

Thanks everyone!
