MAXON is reading and listening. Product development is aware of the multi-select reflections issue and of the thread on C4DCafe you're referencing. Don't mistake one request for clarification by a MAXON contractor as official comment.

holy-molly, it was one request. Who made requests, do not use AR and new reflectance?! It was one in dbase of requests?!
Hey, others, why are you not requested this and other tools?

Quote: Yep. But you will need to have a Houdini License (Indy/FX) I think

That was my question : whether it comes with a simple Houdini BRIDGE or with a Houdini Engine LICENCE altogether.

Houdini Engine Licence (499$ price) still requires a full edition to create stuff, but you can load assets.

But that would make upgrading to R17 a no brainer. If it's just the bridge (I guess so), well... I'm wondering if the Take system is worth the upgrade price.

I liked it more when you weren't in a position to talk so freely. But that's because I appreciated your betatesting contribution in the past few years, of course.

I said 'one request for clarification from a MAXON contractor'

Referring to Hvorje's 'what reflectance issue?' post

I was not indicating at all the importance of the request, or how many requests we receive.

I am not sure I follow, I was merely asking if houdini bridge will be developed and released outside c4d yearly upgrade cycle?

Well, I think that's my MSA decision made. How bad is it to miss a year and then upgrade from R16 to R18 (assuming that's worth doing)? Because, frankly, there's fuck-all here for me.

ouch, sorry. Nobody knows.
We have nobody from maxon at side-fx at forum. Only we have Noseman.
Noseman is contractor or trainer, like if will be mention by Rick from Maxon USA, he does not able to give any info about roadmap of tool

I would assume it's updated separately but I'm not 100%

Hard to say, seems i saw Alain Laforge(alainl) in user bar of this topic.
Maybe he will say about houdini development if will be possible

I confess I'm a bit disappointed with this release. If it wasn't the higher price tag to upgrade over the MSA, I wouldn't spend money on this release. Maxon isn't listening to us!

To me the only strong point of this release are the Takes feature. Everything else is very welcomed but like Nigel very well said, this looks like a R16.5 release!

Quote: what's in R17 doesn't reflect the number of developers that work for Maxon or that's my impression. I base that assumption on the number of developers that they have been recruiting over the last year or two (and that's based on publicly posted job vacancies).

I feel the same. Maxon seems to have recruited many bright people, (the new features that we do receive reflect some great thinking and talent) but the volume and pace of new features doesn't seem to match.

Throwing in some cheap goodies in the library and promoting it as a feature does seem like a confession.

Some lone guys made a free node shader (CM nodes), a great PBR system (Pixelberg) excellent fluids and particles (Turbulence FD, Xparticles) or tons of new useful stuff (Tapaul, Nitroman, Niklas, even Cineversity now!...) and a whole team with R&D in Germany and Canada + contractors around the world (some of which are actually the same previously mentionned) cannot keep up?

It's obvious Maxon can't be best at everything, and shouldn't try and compete with hyper specialist stuff, but as much as I like the new workflow stuff, I feel there should be more.

They ARE listening, they ARE talented, they are NOT BLIND and I don't think they're lazy... so there's something missing.

I asked this same question in this forum 2+ years ago. I was at R14 and wasn't at all interested in upgrading to R15. Not sure if the numbers still hold true, but I was told I'd have to pay retail for the version I skipped + the MSA for the new one. So, back then, to go from R14 to R16 would have cost me $1,595.

So, I reluctantly upgraded to R15.

Right, I assumed this won't be such a secret since they went out with public beta, which is a maxon first I think.

And information like this is essential to know if you invest in c4d - houdini pipeline and some feature comes out that you would be unable to benefit from it in c4d till next september...

Holy shit. That's some barrel they've got us over... But on the other hand, I don't see Ł450's worth of value in R17 for me personally. I could buy a lot of nice plugins for that.
