Smoke Rings with Thinking Particles--so close...

hi all

I'm trying to rig up some smoke rings, with a stylized / toon look--staying away from TFD.

I've got something working using Thinking Particles and Pyrocluster shaders, but when I animate it, I get particles popping on/off--because I've set the lifespan of each particle at only one frame, so that they appear to "follow" the torus object I'm animating.

The popping sort of ruins the effect. Maybe there is a better way to set up TP? rather than having each particle born/die in a single frame? Is there a way to get the particles to fly around with the torus, and therefore have a longer lifespan? I've played a bit with follow position, etc...but no luck with that yet

P Follow Position should give you the desired effect,
what's wrong with it?

when I use the follow position node all the particles flow toward the pivot point--and w/ a torus, that means the particles are moving into the center, where they shouldn't be.

am I missing a setting or something?

Well, you have to feed it with positions on the torus surface.
The PSurface Position can give you that.

But you can have it easier. Take the Matrix Object
set it to Object Mode, put your Torus in. Set the Matrix
Object to generate Thinking Particles. No need for a
Xpresso setup

haha, sorry, I simply meant how to delete that last post. I started a reply, answered my own question--then couldn't figure out how to remove it

And yes, I'll try to post a tip on how I finally got it working
