portrait montage camera orientation issue

I have got a bit of an issue here that i can't quite fathom how to solve or make easier anyway...

I have taken some photos to use as a backplate for a photomontage in portrait format as it was the best way to capture enough of the site vertically whilst keeping the camera square on and level.

I thought that I would be able to just adjust the picture proportions in cinema to match my plate as i would do normally with a landscape format image. So I set them to the same pixel widths and height as the image and put in a camera with a focal length of 24mm (full frame camera) so all I would need to do is find the correct location and horizontal rotation of the camera in 3D space. I struggled away with this for a bit and wasn't even getting close so I thought well lets try and recreate the actual scene and rotate the camera (and backplate) through 90 degrees so everything is on its side. Now everything seemed to be much closer and I fine tuned to get the correct building location on the plate. Brill.

Now I have some serious neck ache of having to turn my head to 90 degrees to see my building the right way up! It seems crazy that this would be the best way to do this but I dont know how else to do it. Is there a way to rotate the perspective view by 90 degrees? Also seems odd that the camera is way off unless its rotated by 90. Any help would be appreciated thanks .....
