update

I am very pleased to be able to announce the release of DEM Earth 1.10. You can download this update immediately from your DEM Earth preferences.

Please take note of the new HelpDesk which I have set up especially to help you with DEM Earth. To create a ticket, log in using your DEM Earth account details and I will do my best to assist you. You can use the helpdesk to post anything to do with DEM Earth, such as bugs, crashes, account issues or ideas and suggestions, ect.

New Image Downloader Extension

This is a major update, which includes new image downloader, for grabbing images directly in DEM Earth. There are many different map types which you can easily access, with a simplicity that has never been seen before in the mapping world. You select the map layer, choose a level and press the capture button. DEM Earth will then begin downloading everything you need, creating a finished material and setting it up for you..

The current layer list includes the following map types at varying levels of detail:

  • Open Satalite Maps
  • Open Street Map
  • Stamen Terrain
  • Stamen Terrain Lines
  • Stamen World Water Mask (no more manual water mask painting)
  • Stamen world Parks
  • Stamen World Buildings Mask (yep, very high res building mask for the entire planet)
  • Stamen Acetate
  • Stamen Toner
  • Stamen WaterColor
  • MapBox Sat layer
  • Mapbox Sketch (a very cool sketch like map layer)
  • OpenWeatherMap Pressure Contour
  • Esri World Imagery
  • Esri World Physical Map
  • Esri World Ocean
with more to come..

Regards

Paul Everett

I just put a little reel up of some of the shots iv finished with DEM over the last few weeks

super short timeframes to make these so DEM earth made it possible to get the job done,

https://vimeo.com/72896915

Hats off Paul we've been working on getting a tool like this in cinema for years now, its great to finally have it.

cheers
Mike

Nice stuff there Mike. Was the full Earth globe done in DEM Earth as well? I suppose you'd need to download much lower res geometry and texture maps to work with that much data.

DEM Earth has been updated to version 1.22
Users can download the new version using the built in updater.

This update adds a nifty GPX track importer.

Version 1.22
- Sept 3, 2013

Added - some safety to the GPX import.Largest track area is 500KM (diagonal)
Added - auto zoom. For Geopoint converter and gpx import (sets the DEM Earth zoom so it fits the area being imported)

Version 1.21

Added - GPX track importer
fixed - potential crash in the Point converter
fixed - small memory leak in dem earth object (thanks Michael)
Added - Strata Object option. You can restrict a shader to the Strata by using the restriction name "strata"

Added - Australia map layer(NSW)

Version 1.15

Changed - Map loader is no longer an option. it is now fully included with all versions of DEM Earth.

Version 1.11 - Aug 23, 2013

fixed - If a download failed because the file did not exist, a broken zip file could be left in the cache folder.
fixed - A nasty crash bug after switching documents (thanks neil)
Changed - DEM Earth main dialog, shuffle (Less clutter)
Added - When you create a DEM Earth, if there is a lat,lon coordinate in the clipboard, DEM Earth will open at that location.

Enjoy it.

Holy smokes.... I love that kind of stuff. How did you get the crisp white paths to weave along the terrain in what I assume was the path of an actual road?

Gotta buy this plug but I keep running into crazy expenses like trips for funerals...

Plus the MSA for R15 just hit my credit card.

This plugin is a lot of fun to play with. So easy to use just by pasting lat/long coords from Google maps and then get a Terrain mapped with SAT image in no time with the new Image Loader feature.

The new GPX feature works just as easy.

Hi there, my company are considering a purchase. Just wanted to ask a question.

- We are wanting a 3D mesh of Everest & just wanted to check that it is covered by the data on your server subscription.
