How to keep the visual selector visible?

I do all my character animation work in R11.5 but I want to upgrade to a newer version- I'm unable to get the new VS introduced in R13 to behave in a way that makes sense to me.

In r13 and newer when you click a controller in the visual selector the VS disappears-

What if you want to keep the VS active because you are animating a character with several controllers? Then you have to click on the VS every time you want to make it active? It stayed visible in R12 and prior-

I made this youtube video to illustrate the problem I'm having.

I made an additional attribute manager with only "tools" active to try to remedy this problem- no other elements show up in the window but the VS disappears every time a controller is clicked-

Is there a workaround to keep the VS visible? I'm always working with multiple characters in my scenes with multiple VS tags that I need to switch between. Thanks!

In 11.5 your using the dedicated visual selector window. In R13 your using the attribute manager. that is why it disappears. Either use the dedicated VS window, or lock your AM. There are two types of locking the Padlock which locks it to only that VS, and the other chain like icon which is to lock to a specific type of thing.

The dedicated VS window is nice in that it has a dropdown to switch between the different vs tags easily, but the dropdown doesn't seem to refresh the window int he latest R14

Ok thanks! I'll try that out

I was using the AM as I like being able to click a VS to select it- using the VS window keeps it from disappearing but you can't click select a vs tag- guess I'll have to get used to using the popup selector.

use the chain lock on the AM you can then select which tag you want but when you click int he VS you "typically" won't lose it. if you had a tag in your VS then in that rare case you would in fact lose the VS because the chain would only allow tags to display
