That is exactly what the plugins pShade and pCache do, they use the hair API to extend hair into a particle renderer which can then be used with a standard C4D Material (which hair can't normally do). There is then the pShade shader which can shade using particle attributes. It works very well with X-Particles.

I'm sure Krakatoa will be a great addition, it has some very nice looking features, it will be interesting to see how they work within C4D. I'm especially looking forward to seeing how it plays with X-Particles.

Somebody pinch me, it might be I'm still asleep.
In an application that makes short work of everything but particle effects, Krakatoa will make fro a very welcome addition to my tool set. The potential here is huge. Congrats on successfully implementing it into our favorite 3D package.

Some features:

X-Particles 50 million particles rendering fast. (given you have enough memory)

and 80 million X-Particles rendering with Krakatoa colored by age with DOF (and not enough memory, hence the bad timestamp)

wow nice that time isn't too bad at all for the counts.

looking forward to trying it out.

cheers
Mike

As a comparison, what would be the rendertime without krakatoa, using just X-particles and/or hair render?
