Problem with background image templates

When I load an image as a background "template" image, the image displays, but the viewport is also colored yellow. The Transparency and Alpha mode settings are also grayed out.

I have tried this with many different images, or different types, same problem.

R14.042 - Mac

I just installed the latest OpenGL patch. (I don't know if this was working prior to the patch install).

Did you check the "open GL" checkbox in your preferences?

Generally, I use planes to map the lines drawings and combine them in a null
that can be turned on or off. This way the plans can move and rotate with the
model mesh when in perspective mode, etc.
