Symmetrical modeling question

Hi folks,

Suppose you have created a model with the symmetry object and then threw out the symmetry object after using it to create a full mesh first. The mesh is symmetrical, only without the symmetry object.

Next suppose you want to modify the vertices on the model, but you want to do it symmetrically over the YZ plane. Can you do that?

Basically, can you modify a model symmetrically on a symmetrical model without the symmetry object?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe you use the mirror tool for that. It's in the functions bar when you make the object editable. Unless I miss-read your question?

You could use the sculpt mode in r14.
But basically you can't do it in Cinema. Luckily Fabian Rosenkranz created a plugin to fill the gap.

Hi, you can use my Symmetry-Maker Script. It is part of my Modeling-Script-Bundle. It converts a Symetric Polygonobject to a Symmetryobject. Or you delete half of the Point on positive X and thow it in a new Symmetryobject yourself.

Cactus Dan's CD Symmetry will let you edit points symmetrically while keeping your object as a single mesh: http://www.cactus3d.com/CDSymmetry.html

NitroMan's MagicSymmetry provides an easy way to toggle between a single mesh and a symmetry object: http://nitro4d.com/blog/freebie/magicsymmetry/

cheers

Howdy,

For more information on my CD Symmetry Tools plugin, check out this youtube video:

Two other free options:

MagicSymmetry http://nitro4d.com/blog/freebie/magicsymmetry/

TrueSymmetry http://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/files/fi...ue-symmetry-13/

This is such a basic feature, and should be in the base application... fortunately, plugin writers have come to the rescue...

Thanks for all the leads, people. I will look into them all.

Cheers,

if you are looking for symmetry tool for modeling then i would not suggest you cdtools. magic symmetry is the only useable tool imo. i hope we see the scultping symmetry features for poly modeling in next update.
