Trying to recreate the snow in this scene in C4D

Hello everyone, I am a new C4D user and I am trying to recreate this scene or at least part of it, here is the video http://vimeo.com/49594235 now look in the seconds 00:25 to 00:31 the mountains and the snow on them.

I am trying to recreate the mountains and the snow thats on the mountains, actually I already know how to create the mountains with this exact low poly look, I am using the Landscape thats available in C4D, my main problem is creating the snow thats on the mountains, how do you create that? how do you model it? how to even start? any ideas would be helpful.

Maybe extruding some of the faces? I thought of this but it felt a bit unclean way of doing it, what would you guys do.

Thank you!
Dave.

try displacement mapping, alphas and sub surface scattering for the snow itself....to begin with anyway.

Hi,
I would also try with a displacement as Kiwi says, maybe applied to a copy of your mountain. With terrain mask and some tweaking I think you can get pretty close.
Nonetheless, I think an old and dirty manual brushing in point mode would also work, and you'll probably get more specific look and control (even if less procedural).

There's a great "Snow Capped Mountain" tutorial by Cactus Dan, including the C4D project file here:

I'd start with a landscape object. Crank up the fine furrows setting. Then use sub-poly displacement with a noise shader. You can use the layer shader to mix different noise shaders at different scales.

For colour, use the terrain mask shader as an image mask layer in a layer shader. This way you can make the Snow White and the rock grey or brown. Use can also use a similar technique in the specular colour channel.

I used this technique to make this:Mountain

Hope that helps.
